Join me at on Nov 15th at a FREE ArcReady Event in Redmond, WA
Hello Architects!
I am a new blogger in the blogosphere and it is my pleasure to make my first entry about an upcoming FREE event for Architects under the MSDN POWER SERIES banner called ‘ArcReady’! I am helping to define and drive this event in the Redmond area and I hope to see you there. What topics shall we be covering you ask?
Below is a short description on the three topics we plan to cover: Software + Services, Live Services, and Office as a Platform. At the bottom of this blog entry are instructions on how to sign-up for this free event.
Note: We will be giving away an Microsoft Xbox 360, so good luck at the time of the drawing.
ArcReady Introduction
The emerging macro-trend taking place today for the technology world is the convergence of the Web and the physical world. Also often referred to as the disappearing boundaries between the on-line and off-line worlds. This trend also underscores a shift from using Web browsers as the primary means to connect on-line to a model of personal computing, whereby seamless and consistent experiences are delivered over a broad spectrum of connected devices.
Join us for three ArcReady sessions that will help to demystify how the Software Plus Services (S+S) paradigm effectively supports this view of the future and how Microsoft intends to implement this vision, how the Windows Live Platform enriches the online experiences, and how Microsoft Office can serve as a composite application platform to bring together online experiences. These sessions delivered by Microsoft architects and key partners will give you the knowledge you need to make informed decisions.
Topic #1: “Software Plus Services” (S+S) Distilled
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web 2.0, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and User Experience (UX) are some of the most prominent trends floating about these days. Today’s environment is marked by the consumerization of technology, more prevalent internet connectivity, new and highly scalable monetization methods, and design-driven product development to name a few. Microsoft’s unifying response to this new environment is the “Software plus Services” (S+S) strategy. So what does S+S entail and why is it important? How is it relevant? This session explores the various trends at the architectural level, their influences and impacts, and how the S+S strategy applies towards the future. We will also discuss how S+S is driving the innovation efforts across the broad Microsoft platform, and opportunities for architects and developers to deliver more value to customers.
Topic #2: Windows Live Platform Overview
The Web has evolved and user expectations right along with it. Where once users looked at the Web as a way to get information they now look at it as a way manage their productivity, consume media and entertainment, and interact with others. Users expect great experiences on the Web that let them bring their personal context (relationships, interactions, memories, locations) with them wherever they go. Services from the Windows Live Platform allows developers to provide users great experiences around personal relationships, peer interaction, and sharing memories and experiences. This session provides a comprehensive look at the Windows Live collection of services, capabilities, software, and APIs as well as examples of how the various services can be incorporated into current service offerings.
Topic #3: Office as a Platform
Composite applications are an effective vehicle to deliver business value through service orientation and are a great way to aggregate the consumable services to support cross-functional processes. Composite applications allow for these services or components to be mixed and matched like blocks, allowing developers to customize applications to evolving enterprise needs. With the release of 2007 Microsoft Office System clients, servers, and tools, Microsoft delivers a development platform that can be used to create collaborative, role-based, easy-to-use solutions and allow for composite applications that extend the traditional business applications and enterprise systems. This session provides a comprehensive overview of the 2007 Microsoft Office System as an application platform. We will cover architectural patterns that can be leveraged in the collaboration, content management, enterprise search areas, and cover the extensibility and programmability model built into the platform.
